What led you start Axis Advisors, LLC?
After being at UBS Financial Services for four years, and later affiliating with Commonwealth Financial Network for eight years, I felt that there was still a better way to serve my clients. It was very important to me for my clients to have access to independent advice and investment managers and state of the art resources to solve their needs.
Why do you do what you do?
First and foremost, I love helping people. As a trusted financial advisor, I'm able to help individuals and families find the solutions they need in a financial and wealth management plan for each stage of life. This means helping them organize and monitor their financial life while also serving as their financial quarterback.
What professional achievements are you most proud of and why?
Well, there are two. First, I’m most proud of effectively starting my independent financial advisory practice at age 26 when I joined Commonwealth. During my first two years in business, I operated my business from what was my mother’s childhood bedroom at my grandmother’s house. And I guess I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. When I was about 8 years old, I convinced my brother and a friend of ours to knock on a neighbor’s door and offer to mow the lawn. She accepted our offer and so it began.
The second, was being elected to the Rhode Island Senate at age 20 and becoming Chair of the Finance Committee at age 30. There are few more humbling experiences than asking someone to exercise their right to vote for you to represent them. I’m grateful to have received the confidence of my constituents and colleagues during 20 consecutive years.
For what in life do you feel most grateful?
My health, a beautiful and loving family, truly good friends and the opportunity to work with clients who are really special people.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
When you’re climbing the ladder, be nice to the people you pass along the way. You’ll see them again on your way down.
When you’re not at the office, you can often be found doing what?
I love spending time with my family and good friends. We try to ski in the winter and relax by the pool in the summer. Attending the kids’ karate classes and sports games are the most wonderful opportunities to watch them grow and develop.
